Know Your Rights to Protest: Guide Launch. Wed 04 June 2025 @ 17.30 2 Royal Avenue, Belfast

Guide Launch: Know Your Rights to Protest

Event Date(s): June 4, 2025  | Time: 17.30 - 19.00
Event Type: In Person
Event Venue: 2 Royal Avenue

This is an important day for environmental and social justice.

Join us as we officially launch the Know Your Rights to Protest guide into the increasingly shrinking civic space for environmental and human rights protectors.

Sign up via Eventbrite.

A number of organisations – Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ), Public Interest Litigation Support (PILS), Environmental Justice Network Ireland (EJNI) and Friends of the Earth NI (FOENI) – came together with lawyers to produce this guide.

It will be a valuable resource for all those interested in protecting human rights and keeping people safe during peaceful protest.

The launch of this guide is timely given the increasing restrictions on those protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and those attempting to address the ecological and climate crises, across these islands and beyond.

The right to protest is a fundamental part of our democracy and must be protected.

At the event, you will:

  • hear from the authors of the guide about the format and rationale for it, with remarks from CAJ’s Daniel Holder and our own Director/Solicitor Kate Barry.
  • hear from Emily Williams, Policing & Justice Policy Officer at Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) on the differences between the two jurisdictions, which will be particularly relevant for anyone that protests and campaigns on both sides of the border.
  • have an opportunity to provide your feedback on the guide and make suggestions for subsequent ‘Know Your Rights’ training.

Printed copies of the guide will also be available.
