Law Society of NI’s human rights group reacts to ‘Rights Removal Bill’
The Law Society of Northern Ireland’s Human Rights and Equality Group have issued a firm condemnation of the legislation that human rights groups have labelled the ‘Rights Removal Bill’.
This morning (03 August 2022), the group rejected the UK government’s proposed reforms, saying:
“This legislation diminishes human rights and weakens the ability for citizens to hold the state accountable for breaching human rights…”.
The working group of practitioners, united in their desire to put forward proposals for law reform, uphold the rule of law and promote the independence of the legal profession, is currently chaired by PILS Director Maria McCloskey.
