Brand new service added to the PILS Pro Bono Register

The PILS Project was set up in 2009 to support the use of public interest litigation. By working with you - our NGO and solicitor members - on cases that would have a wide impact on human rights and equality, we’ve made some great changes.

At the moment, the courts are operating differently with more limited capacity. We also recognise that the work you are doing on a day-to-day basis has changed too.

That is why PILS are adding to our usual pro bono legal advice services to better match what you need.

What are PILS offering?

Right now, we are offering PILS members a new opportunity to ask their specific COVID-19 legal questions during a free 1-2-1 call with a specialist solicitor.

  • The one-off call will be bespoke advice, tailored to your needs.
  • This new COVID-19 service is possible thanks to the support of two of the commercial firms on our Pro Bono Register – A&L Goodbody and Arthur Cox.

The PILS Pro Bono Register is an initiative, run and managed by the PILS Project, designed to encourage the growth of pro bono work among the legal community in Northern Ireland.

Why are we doing this?

Usually, the queries answered by the legal professionals on our Register would be linked to our members’ public interest issues.

In recent weeks, several of our members have expressed concern around issues that are more operational. Changes to employment practice, governance and AGMs, data protection and HR queries, for example.

Answering operational questions like this isn’t something we can usually do. But PILS are now making an exception. By developing this new service, we want to ensure that our members are in the best place possible to continue working with us on strategic litigation - when the time is right.

How do I arrange a call?

If you are a PILS member and are interested in availing of one of the PILS 1-2-1 calls, the process is simple:

  1. Contact PILS to chat through the issue - please email info[at] with a brief description of your query.
  2. If your question matches up with an area of law that the firms specialise in, PILS will coordinate everything to set up the call with the pro bono solicitor at a time that suits you.
